Shannon Oaks Church

Business of the Week
BUSINESS OF THE WEEK Shannon Oaks Church This week, we are highlighting Shannon Oaks Church, a non-denominational family of faith in Christ here in Sulphur Springs. We got to meet with a few of the staff members this morning, and they are some of the nicest people you'll ever come across! Pastor Eric Godwin told us that their mission is "to tell the world about the love of Christ and the gift of salvation and life available through Him." 💚 Our #BOTW, Shannon Oaks Church, started out in the mid-1970's with "a living room of people who were longing to see others know the freedom of a relationship with Jesus, without the baggage of religion." At first, Shannon Oaks was in alignment with a mainstream denomination, but in 2003, leaders of the…

Chamber Connection & COVID-19 Updates

Chamber Connection
CHAMBER CONNECTION May 28th The Chamber is excited to announce that we are moving forward with our annual Golf Tournament! Our reschedule date is Friday, June 19th at Sulphur Springs Country Club. As usual, we will have morning and afternoon flights, and we have availability for teams right now. This tournament will look different in a few ways… we will spend the day completely outside, we will wash our hands often and well, lunch will be picked up in a box instead of being on a buffet, and all team members and volunteers will “Spend the Day a Club’s Length Away!” That will be our social distancing motto to keep everyone safe and healthy! We are looking forward to beautiful weather and a great time! Give us a call at…

M&F Western Products

Business of the Week
BUSINESS OF THE WEEK M&F Western Products This week, M&F Western Products is in the spotlight! This local, family-owned business has been running strong since 1969. Today, they manufacture and distribute a variety of western products, including boot supplies, hat supplies, wallets, buckles, jewelry, leather care and much more. The story behind our #BOTW is pretty special! Chester (pictured below, on the left) and Evelyn Eddins started out repairing boots and shoes in 1951, and eventually, business evolved into selling western boots and clothing. Their children, Mickey and Frankie Eddins, used their knowledge of the industry, which they learned from growing up in the store, to start M&F Western Novelty in 1969. They started out by simply selling boot jacks and hat covers, and from there, they expanded the business and added…

Chamber Connection & COVID-19 Updates

Chamber Connection
CHAMBER CONNECTION May 14th Texas is opening back up as we speak!  I sure would like to encourage everyone to be safe and smart as we re-open our daily lives, and I will admit that it sure feels good to be getting back to normal. Next week, Governor Abbott will be having another press conference to release the details of the next round of businesses openings.  I know everyone will be watching on the 18th to hear the outline of this.  It’s hard to plan events approaching for the summer and fall.  Truth is… it’s hard to plan things one month away!  2020 is going by in a blur, and I’m just not sure we’ll remember the details of it when it is all said and done.  Just hang in…

Chamber Connection & COVID-19 Updates

Chamber Connection
CHAMBER CONNECTION May 7th I wanted to start this column by saying, “Welcome to the Hunger Games!”  Sometimes I feel like we ARE in the Hunger Games, especially after reading about Murder Hornets.  This morning I read about some schools already deciding to go completely online in the fall, and stress just starts to creep into my skin. What is this craziness we are living? I think it is important that we take the time to put things into perspective and focus on things we can control.  If you are wondering what that is… here’s an answer.  We can shop local, be local, live local.  Our small businesses are desperately needing us right now.  Please continue to order food and pick it up.  Retail is open for business or you…

Broadway Veterinary Hospital

Business of the Week
BUSINESS OF THE WEEK Broadway Veterinary Hospital Broadway Veterinary Hospital opened in 1985, to serve the large and small animals of Hopkins County and surrounding counties. Dr. David Black and Dr. Chris Gilbreath provide comprehensive health care for your pets in a compassionate and caring way, with an outstanding staff that can meet every need. According to Dr. Black, he and Dr. Gilbreath grew up caring for animals, and both worked for veterinarians in high school. That is what paved the direction of their education and gave them the want to become veterinarians, themselves. One of the questions we ask each Business of the Week is, "What is your biggest inspiration in life or in your job?" Dr. Black, with Broadway Veterinary Hospital, told us that he loves being able…

Chamber Connection & COVID-19 Updates

Chamber Connection
CHAMBER CONNECTION April 30 Some people hate change… they hate it.  There are others that just drink it in, and I fall in that category.  I just want to share that as we work to re-open Hopkins County, we should embrace a spirit of change with caution.  Things may look differently than they did before we headed into the COVID-19 fog. In all actuality, we don’t know what day to day life is going to look like for sure. I’ve read about all the different “curves” the experts are discussing for the economy: v curves, w curves, u curves.  Not even the experts agree with each other completely.  But here is something I know… Hopkins County is going to do their very best to bounce back and keep on running. …
