PRESS RELEASE Chamber hires new President/CEO The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce announced in January that Lezley Brown will be resigning her position at the Chamber in the middle of April.  The Board of Directors began their selection process and has chosen their final candidate.  Butch Burney will assume the role of President/CEO of the Hopkins County Chamber in April. Butch is a native resident who, with his wife, Karen, have raised their children here as well. CHAMBER CONNECTION July 25th I’m just so excited about the upcoming 4th Annual Chamber of Commerce Photography Contest!  Let me review the basics.  Anyone of any age can enter as we have a children’s category.  The picture must be newer than January 1, 2017 and must have been taken in Hopkins County. The contest will be open from August 1st to August 31st.  There are seven categories you may enter: Natural World, Travel, People, The Hopkins County Experience, Altered Images, Mobile, and Children’s Category. CHAMBER CONNECTION July 4th The Chamber is excited to announce our vendor call for the Stew Fest Market!  On July 1st, the Chamber began accepting vendors for the Stew Fest Market, which will be located on the south side of Buford Park during Friday night and Saturday Stew Contest activities.  This is a great opportunity to sell goods or to promote your business to 7,000 people who attend the Stew Contest annually. Vendors may rent booth space to sell goods or distribute information about their business. Booths will be assigned on a first-paid basis.  Access to electricity is not guaranteed.  Generators are permitted. CHAMBER CONNECTION May 3rd A few weeks ago, the Chamber had to make the difficult decision to postpone the 29th Annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament due to threats of severe weather.  After making that call, I walked around for several hours with that stubborn lump in my throat while just trying to hide my disappointment.  I didn’t want to cancel, I wanted everyone to play some golf and enjoy the day. CHAMBER CONNECTION November 23rd Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!  2017 has been a fast and furious year, and now here we sit at Thanksgiving Day!  Friday is a day often referred to as Black Friday.  It was named Black Friday because it described the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.  Many people shop Black Friday, and that’s fantastic.  But, there’s an even better day for shopping!  Saturday is called Small Business Saturday.  It is a day labeled to remind us to shop locally for the holidays.  Our small business owners are giving everything they’ve got to live their dreams, and we in return, can benefit from those dreams!  Hopkins County offers wonderful local shopping!  Please make sure you spend at least some of…

CHAMBER CONNECTION August 31st My family has lived in Houston all of my life.  My aunts, uncles, grandparents, and oh so many cousins have called that area home for as long as I can remember.
