BUSINESS OF THE WEEK CHRISTUS Cooper Lake State Park
It’s time to introduce our new Business of the Week, Cooper Lake State Park – South Sulphur! Steve Killian gave us a tour today, told us his story and informed us about the neat entertainment that the park has to offer! If you’re looking for an outdoor escape and access to natural Texas, this is the place for you. 🍃
The South Sulphur Unit of Cooper Lake has 117 campsites for tents and RV’s, 17 screened shelters, 4 mini cabins and 14 regular cabins. Along with numerous places to camp out, they have a wide variety of daytime activities to keep the family entertained! They have over 15 miles of hiking trails through the woods, fishing and swimming areas, a playground, multiple boat ramps, educational programs and fun events throughout the year! There’s plenty to do, no matter what time of year it is!
Steve Killian was our tour guide at Cooper Lake State Park, and he had a wonderful story to tell us!
Steve has worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for 16 years and has been the Complex Superintendent over both the Doctor’s Creek and South Sulphur units of Cooper Lake for a year and a half. He chose this line of work because he enjoys protecting the natural habitats found in parks and building happier and healthier communities through regular park use.
Steve definitely has a passion for his job, and he told us about the many things that keep him motivated and inspired, with the greatest being his opportunity to improve the lives of citizens through providing quality outdoor recreation. He’s involved in all aspects of the park operations, such as directly interacting with campers and conducting nature programs, so everyday brings something new. If you ever get to meet Steve in person, you’ll have to ask him about the many interesting stories he has to tell!
We have LOVED getting to tell you more about our lovely Cooper Lake State Park, and we feel that there is no better way to end the week, than by sharing a special message from Steve Killian, himself:
“Cooper Lake State Park is your park! I am just a caretaker of this natural jewel and will, at some point, pass the awesome responsibility to another, so future generations can also love and enjoy it. My staff is ready to welcome you to the park and show how to best take advantage of all we have to offer. With Proposition 5 passing last November, we will be investing more money into our park and county. We are always looking for more likeminded volunteers, who love the outdoors and want to make our park better. We have many opportunities for you to invest, give back and join our awesome team!” 😃
How awesome is that?! If you’re looking for an escape into nature, or for a place to take the family for a little getaway, you MUST check out Cooper Lake State Park! It will not disappoint! 😉🌳🐿🌾 #BOTW #ChamberLove
